November 25, 2016- Nursing Home Sued For Couple’s Death
A South Oregon woman filed a negligence lawsuit for the deaths of her mother and father. She is suing the nursing home as well as its physical therapy and hospice providers for almost $2.7 million. The lawsuit alleges that the woman’s parents needs were disregarded by the hospice they were in and failed to protect them leading to their death. The couple had been previously diagnosed with dementia and were considered to be at a high risk for falling. The dad allegedly fell 13 times at least during his eight-month stay. The daughter also states that the defendants failed to provide her parents with physical therapy as per the instructions of their doctor. The couple died within weeks of each other.
October 27, 2016- Brooklyn Elevator Shaft Crash Kills Baby In Stroller
In Sea Gate, Brooklyn a 21-year-old woman fell into an elevator shaft that killed her one-month-old baby and injured her. The accident took place when the mom pushed her stroller with her child in it, into an elevator when the doors opened, but the elevator car was not there. According to officials, the elevator was probably stopped between floors when the doors opened. Both mom and baby fell several feet and landed on top of the elevator car. Police believe that the elevator was out of service when the incident occurred, but the Buildings Department is checking the maintenance records. This building is believed to have had dozens of elevator violations over the last 15 years and residents had just recently complained about the elevator not working.
September 20, 2016- 13 Hour Hospital Ordeal Cost Brooklyn Man His Leg
An excruciating thirteen-hour ordeal led to a Brooklyn man losing his leg at Coney Island Hospital. The 46-year-old man was deprived of vital emergency treatment that led to him having to have his right leg amputated above the knee. Miscommunication and red tape kept him from being treated immediately after he had been hit by a car in the early hours of the morning. Doctors established that he had no blood in his right leg and required emergency vascular surgery to salvage his limb. However, there was no vascular surgeon at Coney Island Hospital and he needed to be transferred to a different hospital. The transfer took too long and documentation delays led to the man waiting for 13-hours before he could be attended to. The man has filed a Brooklyn Federal Court lawsuit worth $24 million because of this medical malpractice and mismanagement at the hospital.
